The scratch tester is a lateral forc ensor. It can be operated in force serv ontrol or open loop mode. The serv ontrol mode of operation allows th nit to be used as a profilometer sinc he instrument will maintain a constan oad applied to the indenter while an hanges in depth are recorded by th epth sensor. In addition, the scratc ester has a separate lateral force senso hus allowing coefficient of frictio easurements. The scratch tester can b sed to perform a ramped increasing o ecreasing load, or a steady load along cratch path. The scratch may b epeated (wear test) many times o ffset by a small distance.
The size or length of the scratch i imited to the smallest step of th ample stages (100 nm).
The lateral force unit has two forc anges. Range A is 0 – 15 mN, Range s 0 – 150 mN.
